Description

A dark comedy/horror game by Jesse Barksdale, creator of the static speaks my name. Help a cult complete a strange ritual in exchange for divine inspiration to finish writing your terrible novel. A mostly linear experience, but the choices you make determine which of the five unique endings you receive. Play multiple times to unlock the complete story. Takes around 45 minutes to complete once and another 20 minutes to get a few more endings.

History

I came up with the idea for this game in April 2015, a few months before the static speaks my name came out on Steam. Then my appendix ruptured and I spent three months in and out of hospitals, before finally having my appendix removed. I'm sure some of the body horror elements in the game are inspired by that experience. I started building out the game in August 2015, but I was working alone. In October 2015, Samu Kovanen (who I met after starting a Masters program in Finland) joined the team as programmer. Samu and I worked on Bucket Detective whenever we weren't going to school or working various jobs. We had several amazing contributors (for things like music, illustrations, and sound), but the majority of the game was made by me and Samu. We thought Bucket Detective would take around six months to complete, but it took almost a year and a half. I'm happy to answer any questions or do an interview if you want one. - Jesse Barksdale
